A family home and guesthouse where tradition lives on: the Ottmanngut can tell many stories, the everyday and the curious, the artistic and the fantastic, the funny and the serious, all worthy of discovery. The grandeur of yesterday meets the style of today at the Ottmanngut.
The Ottmanngut loves nature, which continues to mark its style and character.
The traditional spa town of Meran presents itself to visitors with its Mediterranean climate and southern vegetation, all against a magnificent Alpine backdrop of impressive peaks. The Ottmanngut too enjoys the mild climate and splendid plant life in all its Mediterranean glory, with oleander, citrus fruits, palms, cypresses and more besides.
Orangerie
An essential part of the garden is the historic orangery, the winter quarters for the citrus fruits. Built in 1875 by Tobias Kirchlechner, it is still used for the same purpose today. Thus kumquats, lemons, Buddha’s hands and tangerines can all in winter be found in the glasshouse with its original cement tiles. During the warmer months this living room extension hosts readings and musical evenings. And there is nothing more romantic than breakfast in the orangery while the rain pours down outside!
Our very own vineyard
Our vineyard behind the house also offers secluded spots where guests can relax and read. The grapes have always been used to make wine and juice: Vernatsch grape juice or a mix of Lagrein, Nebbiolo and Cabernet.
