Masseria Malvindi is located in the countryside of the ancient Messapian city of Mesagne on the edge of the ancient Appian Way that in Roman times connected the capital of the empire, Rome, to the important port of Brindisi. In the medieval period the area of the Masseria was affected by the passage of the Limitone dei Greci: which marked the border between the territory occupied by the Byzantines, to the south, and that occupied by the Lombards, to the north.
The limitone began in Otranto, then a center of great strategic importance, and running along the Via Traiana, which connected Otranto to Lecce and Brindisi, to continue on to Rome, it arrived near the destroyed city of Valesio, near S. Pietro Vernotico. The Limitone branched off from the Via Traiana heading east and even today, near the Malvindi farmhouse, you can still see part of the ancient sheep track, paved with the ancient 'chianche'.
