Description

Mintara sits atop Burnaby Mountain, next to Kamui Mintara (also known as “Playground of the Gods”) – a wooden sculpture created by Nuburi Toko, a renowned Ainu Indigenous artist, and his son Shusei Toko. The stunning artwork was gifted to Burnaby in 1990 from its sister city of Kushiro, Hokkaidō, Japan. The venue name “Mintara” derives from the title of the sculpture, “Kamui Mintara.” It respects the original intentions of artist Nuburi Toko, who passed away in 2014. In honour of his father, artist Shusei Toko kept the original transliteration for this artwork that tells the story of creatures, gods and people living together on earth.Note: The transliteration of the Ainu language has changed over time and there are various ways to transliterate “Kamui Mintara.” Kamui (or Kamuy) is often translated as gods and “Mintara (or Mintar as commonly written today)” can be translated as garden, yard, park and/or ground. The Ainu are an Indigenous people on the northern island of Hokkaidō, but also once occupied areas in northeastern Honshū in Japan as well as the Kuril Islands and Sakhalin, which Russia now administers.Facilities and CapacityMintara atop Burnaby Mountain's incredible rose garden outdoor ceremony space seats up to 110 guests and affords stunning views of Burrard Inlet, Indian Arm, and the North Shore Mountains. Rose Garden Wedding Bliss
We got married in the rose garden and then held our reception in the restaurant afterward. What a fantastic venue! Carissa, Kevin and the rest of the staff were fantastic. The food was great and we even had a view of the fireworks on the patio at night. I would recommend hosting a party here or going for a sunset meal. We will be back.

Hidden Gem: Mintara Restaurant Review
Had lunch at Mintara Restaurant yesterday, June 1st 2023. We used to come here for special occasions when it was Horizon's as we live locally. This place is very poorly advertised. Most of the online information is incorrect, and my husband said that trying to book a table was a nightmare. In the end he simply called the restaurant and booked for lunch on the same day. The place was practically empty! But when all was said and done, it was lovely.

Charming Wedding Venue Review
I took my parents and my uncle and aunt to come here for dinner weekday. The food was good service ok. They tried their best because there is only four staff working here on weekday. Reservation is a must because they can only deal w 48 set dinners per evening. The food was better than I had expected. Usually when you have a nice view, you don’t get quality food. This place is located in a nice setting and they have set dinner and view( I think they got the best of both worlds).
