Full Description
Hawarden Estate Experience is home to a pub, restaurant, farm shop, campsite and events space unlike any others. Hawarden Castle Pavilion, where we host our weddings, is a truly remarkable place. It sits nestled between two historic castles of national importance. The first, a 13th century fortification with a history dating back to the Iron Age, and the second, an 18th century castle once home to four-time Prime Minister William Gladstone. Built in the 1920s, the Pavilion looks over what has been described by many as Wales’ most beautiful cricket pitch. The final ball was bowled in 2016 and the building was reimagined. With a background in design, homewares, vintage and hospitality, the Gladstones were uniquely positioned to create an event space unlike any other. This is a special place; a vast wild flower meadow watched over by castles and ancient trees. Beyond the pitch itself sits a Victorian boathouse overlooking a large lake peppered with water lilies. The skies here are big, strong and imposing. This is Wales at its best; at once tamed, wild and free.

Describe the best wedding that happened at your venue?

A full festival weekend wedding! Starting on the wedding day with a beautiful outdoor ceremony on the old cricket pitch, with the castle in the background. Followed by a private photo shoot for the couple up at the old castle with breath taking views of the Cheshire plains whilst they got a brief moment of peace before heading back to the party. We then served an incredible feast, all cooked outside, over the fire, where guests could watch as our incredible chefs worked their magic. The evening was spent dancing the night away to an amazing roaming brass band, with an all important pit stop for pizza served from the outdoor pizza ovens. After staying in our amazing bell tents in their private camp site, they woke to a delicious fire cook breakfast of bacon and eggs. They then finished the day with a lake swim and singing around the campfire. What a great weekend!!

What is your No. 1 wedding planning tip for couples?

Pick some key things that are your must haves like great view or feast style food or cocktails and then insure they run through your entire wedding day.

What’s your favourite personal touch you’ve seen at a wedding?

The groomsman and bridesmaids had spent the year from the engagement to the wedding day filming 'behind the scenes' and then played it for their speeches. It really captured some beautiful moments that the couple had probably completely overlooked!
