Full Description
A highly professional and experienced solo piper covering Buckinghamshire, Berkshire, Oxfordshire, London, Hertfordshire. I have been playing for over 30 years as a solo piper and also in pipe bands across New Zealand, UK and continental Europe. I pride myself on a high level of musicianship, a professional attitude to service and a large repertoire that I am constantly innovating on to help my customers get what they need for their event. Here is just one example of where I helped a bride and groom create a unique and lasting memory: they wanted a scifi themed bagpipe medley so I created a compilation just for them and played it as they walked out of the church, much to the surprise and delight of their guests. You can book with confidence. Request a quote - Confirm booking with a deposit (14 day refundable before the event) - I will turn up on time in a full pipers outfit, Royal Stewart - you pay the remaining amount after the event. A little bit about myself: I learnt the pipes in New Zealand when studying for an engineering degree at Auckland University and have since played in pipe bands in Auckland and in the UK and for many years as a solo piper across Europe. My mother and grandfather both played the pipes and had their own pipe band in Chingford, plus my Aunt was in the famous Dagenham girl pipers. My sister also learnt to play the pipes at the same time as myself and went on to become an excellent drummer. So you can see that my family's pedigree in the great highland bagpipes is indeed extensive. Thank you for visiting my profile page and I look forward to hearing from you, Julia Read (Scottish Piper)

I look forward to working with you to create a performance that is meaningful to you. I play a range of traditional Scottish tunes, but have also been asked by brides and grooms to play some more modern and unusual pieces that mean something particular to them. I would most certainly recommend Julia to anyone a
"Hi. I would rank Julia higher than 5 if it were possible! She was superb. My daughter had the unusual request of asking if Country Road by John Denver could be played at the wedding on the bagpipes. Julia happily agreed that it was possible. She went to the trouble of recording and sending a clip for my daughter's approval. It was perfect! Julia arrived before everyone. Made friends with everyone and was certainly a hit. She performed more tunes than we initially requested and made suggestions of when and what would be good to play. I would most certainly recommend Julia to anyone and everyone. Thank you so much, our day was even more perfect than we ever imagined."

"Julia was amazing!!
"Julia was amazing!! I booked her a surprise for my husband for our wedding. Julia communicated excellently ahead of date, checking out which outfit to wear and what songs to play. Julia liaised directly with the venue to keep everything a secret from my husband. Being from a Scottish family - julia’s playing certainly brought a tear to the eye of my new husband and many family members! Julia looked amazing in her traditional uniform and played the pipes amazingly well. We even had an opportunity to pose with julia for some photos before she played us into our wedding breakfast. Julia, thank you! You certainly did not disappoint us!! I would highly recommend julia!!"

Highest possible marks
An inspired and inspiring choice for my daughter’s wedding reception in the beautiful and thankfully sunny Surrey countryside. Highest possible marks and largest thanks to Julia for her support, timeliness but above all for her immaculate and moving piping. Our guests were thoroughly spoilt and many too were visibly moved. Thank you Julia

Wedding bagpiper - very professional
Julia did a fantastic job at our daughter’s wedding, playing outside the church as all the guests arrived and then playing for my husband and daughter as they walked right up the church path. She kept us very well informed before the date and came up with loads of ideas and options to make the entry into church really special. It was a sizzling June day and Julia was in full regalia but I never saw her flag. Professional, cheerful, great bagpipe playing, what more could you ask?

Recommendation 10 stars !!
Julia recently playing at my Wife Grandfather's funeral who sadly departed us. The overall level of professionalism, compassion and manner of Julia was unbelievable. Julia played her beautiful set of bagpipes and escorted the funeral hearse to the doors of the crematorium, where she was dress fully in traditional Scottish piper uniform looking incredibly smart and eye catching. She then played the coffin into the crematorium where the coffin was on display and the service began, just before the end of the wonderful service Julia then played the beautiful "Amazing Graze" as the curtains was shut and my wife's Grandfather was laid to rest. Julia's music hit the heart strings of all the family and friends make us weeping tears of sadness and remembrance. On behalf of the family and friends I would like to thank you for a beautiful service as a lone piper who made the day special. Recommendation 10 stars !!

She was great, really got the party going
I was a guest at a New Years eve party that Julia played at. She was great, really got the party going and such a surprise when she came in playing Auld Lang Syne. Then she got everyone jigging around, joining hands and dancing to a traditional Scottish jig. Absolutely fantastic! 5 stars
