The John M.S. Lecky UBC Boathouse provides a stunning on-water setting for your wedding day. A fully floating venue with an expansive dock space and an event hall featuring floor to ceiling glass walls, the mountain and river views cannot be escaped. As a fully customizable venue, the John M.S. Lecky UBC Boathouse permits any vendors to be brought into the space. We do highly recommend our team of Preferred Vendors as these vendors have outstanding client service, know the venue well, and are experts at ensuring your event day runs seamlessly.
In keeping with our philosophy of providing a custom and flexible experience, we do not have set booking start times for you to choose from. Instead, you choose when your event starts. Guests must depart by 1am at the latest, vendor clean up must end by 2am. The 8-hour rental package can sit anywhere in the day that you choose and additional hours can be added at your discretion up until 60 days prior to your event date. Dock spaces are complimentary (from March-October) but must be booked separately 4 months in advance to ensure they are booked around existing dock use. Time for vendor set-up and takedown is required as part of the rental block. Vendor set-up requires two hours prior to guest arrival; vendor takedown requires one hour after guest departure.
The regular capacity for the space is up to 150 people for a seated function, or up to 180 for a standing cocktail reception. For events over 150 people, only a maximum of 100 guests may be seated and the remaining up to 80 guests must be standing. Please note that these numbers reflect our fire safety policy and are not flexible.
We have a list of 10 preferred caterers (https://ubcboathouse.com/vendors/catering/). These caterers range in price point to ensure you have choice. If you choose one of these caterers, the additional $1000 galley fee is waived. Alternatively, you are welcome to choose to bring in outside food or catering options. In that case, the $1000 galley fee would be applied to your booking and the caterer must complete a site-visit and provide their insurance.
Absolutely! We charge no corkage fees, but we do require any event that will be serving alcohol to acquire a Special Event Permit & to hire a professional bartending company to serve.
No. These are not included due to the variety in style and choice that may be desired. Please rent your linens and other tableware through your caterer or decor vendor.
Please submit your desired ceremony and cocktail hour start times for approval 4 months prior to your event date when rowing programs schedules are firm.
All outdoor components (ceremony, cocktail hour) will be moved into the event hall. Plan A vs B decision can be made the morning of the event.
Free parking is available on both sides of River Road. The 3 Hour Parking signs do not apply during your event.
The deposit secures your date and is non-refundable and non-transferable.
