The Lock-Up

Located in the heart of the city in the remarkable heritage listed location of Newcastle's original police station and lockup, The Lock-Up now operates as a contemporary arts centre and events space. Known as The Yard, the former excercise yard makes for a stunning and intimate venue. Impressions of the former exercise yard still linger with patina paint, traces of etched graffiti, overhead bars and the solid iron doorway acting as reminders of its history. Modern additions such as the automatic weather-sensitive louvered roof, new raised floor and wooden stage ensure The Yard is a character-filled yet functional space.
