Description

St Mary’s by the Sea offers the most stunning venue for your wedding ceremony in Port Douglas right beside a picturesque beach in the heart of town, close to many accommodation complexes, restaurants & bars.

When planning your reception after your ceremony at St Mary’s, there are plenty to choose from. Many restaurants close to the church cater to wedding receptions. Additionally the popular “sugar wharf” reception venue is right beside the beach in front of St Mary’s By The Sea.

Built in 1880 on the hill in Port Douglas, this historic church was relocated to the current site on November 11, 1988. The Church was fully-restored over a long, difficult twelve months. An official re-opening ceremony was held on November 11, 1989. St Mary’s By The Sea is now a non-denominational chapel.

Inside, you will find a huge glass altar window offering breathtaking views of the beach, Coral Sea and rainforest clad mountains. You will also find stained glass windows & traditional wooden pews. The church bell can also be ringing on your wedding day.

The Chapel is open seven days a week with a capacity of 100 guests. St Mary’s is also air-conditioned and wheel chair access is available (advance notice is required).
