Description

Maroon Hill Estate is a private, exclusive-use wedding venue set beneath Mount Maroon in Queensland's Scenic Rim, 90 minutes from Brisbane, the Gold Coast and Toowoomba, and 2.5 hours from Byron Bay and the Sunshine Coast.

The estate is a blank canvas, built for couples who want a destination-style wedding without leaving Queensland, and who'd rather hand-pick their own vendors than book a templated all-inclusive package.

What's included in venue hire:

  • Exclusive use of the estate for your wedding day
  • Venue hire, furniture and standard setup
  • An on-the-day wedding coordinator
  • Planning assistance and a curated list of recommended vendors

What you arrange separately:

  • Catering and service staff
  • Alcohol and bar service
  • Styling, florals and décor
  • Celebrant, music, photography and other suppliers

The spaces:

The Icon — the heart of the estate, a gabled reception venue inspired by New Zealand architecture, standing in silhouette against Mount Maroon with windows that glow warm at dusk.

The Ceremony Areas — exchange your vows against the backdrop of Mount Maroon, surrounded by 360-degree mountain views.

Indoor Elegance — our light-filled reception space, with vaulted ceilings and timber detailing, set up for formal sit-down receptions, formalities and dancing long into the night.

The Cocktail & Firepit Area — a relaxed gathering space for drinks and canapés at golden hour, with festoon lighting and 360-degree mountain views.

The Vista — an open stretch of manicured lawn with Mount Maroon rising directly behind it, ideal for photographs as the day winds down.

The Green — a flat, open lawn set against the mountain, suited to a second ceremony area, festoon-lit receptions, or celebrations under the stars.

The details:

  • Accommodates up to 120 guests, for formal sit-down or cocktail-style receptions
  • Celebrations and dancing permitted until 11:00pm
  • Venue hire starts from $11,700
  • Most couples spend $35,000–$90,000 total on their wedding at Maroon Hill, including catering, bar, styling and other vendors

Every wedding at Maroon Hill is treated as its own, unrepeated event — we take on a select number of couples each year and give each one our complete attention. If this sounds like your kind of day, we'd love to hear from you.

FAQs
Find out a bit more from our FAQs

How many guests can Maroon Hill hold?

Up to 120 guests. Our function room comfortably seats 60 to 100 with a dance floor, or up to 120 without one. We'll help you work out the best layout for your guest list during planning.

Where are you, and how far is it from Brisbane?

We're at 2554 Boonah Rathdowney Rd, Maroon, in Queensland's Scenic Rim, overlooking Mount Maroon. It's around 1.5 hours from Brisbane, the Gold Coast and Toowoomba, and about 2.5 hours from Byron Bay and the Sunshine Coast.

Will we have the property to ourselves?

Yes. Every wedding at Maroon Hill has exclusive use of the estate — all 44 acres of it, with no other event running alongside yours. We host a limited number of weddings each year, which protects the property and means each couple gets our full attention.

What time of year are you open?

We host weddings across an eight-month season, timed to the Scenic Rim's most ideal climate. We're closed from November to February, though we sometimes accommodate weddings during that window — including New Year's Eve and other public holidays. If you're interested in a date during our closure, get in touch and we'll talk it through.

Can we look around before booking?

Absolutely, and we'd encourage it. Private tours run for about 30 minutes, at your own pace, and you're welcome to bring whoever you'd like. You can book a tour through our website, or get in touch directly if the available times don't suit.

Can we hire a marquee or tipi?

Yes, this is recommended for weddings above 80 guests, or alternatively you can have a cocktail style reception inside our function room.

What time can we access the venue, and when does the day finish?

You have access from 8:00am for hair, makeup and styling. The celebration runs from 1:00pm to 11:00pm, with music off at 11:00pm and all guests departed by 11:30pm.

Where can we hold the ceremony?

There are two grassed ceremony areas with 360-degree mountain views, plus The Green — an open-air space that also works for festoon-lit receptions — and The Vista, a manicured lawn that's our golden-hour photography spot. You can also hold the ceremony indoors if you'd prefer, or if the weather turns.

What happens if it rains?

You have an indoor option, and we plan for it with every couple rather than leaving it to the day. If the weather turns, the ceremony moves inside to the function room and takes place in the dance floor area, with your reception tables left set up as they are. It works well for most guest counts and means nothing has to be dismantled and rebuilt around you.

Being straight with you: for larger weddings, that dance floor space gets tight — once you're seating 105 or more for dinner, the tables take up most of it. If you're at the larger end and you want a guaranteed wet-weather plan, a marquee or tipi is the better answer, and several of our recommended vendors can hold one as a contingency. We'll work out which approach suits your day during planning.

Is there a curfew?

Music off by 11:00pm and all guests off-site by 11:30pm. We're strict about this one — we're in a rural area and it's a condition of us being able to host weddings here at all.
